Obituaries
Derek Houghton (1935-2019), a former pupil of Judd School, died on 25th June in Brighton Hospital after a short illness. He leaves his wife Brenda whom he married in 1959 and two sons Graham and Christopher.

Derek used to cycle on his Armstrong to attend school from Leigh village. He attained two A levels and a woodwork prize and went on to qualify as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor. He passed the exams of the College of Estate Management by a correspondence course whilst working at W F Fidgen & Sons in Eccleston Square SW1 following his stint at national service.

Derek continued in the profession of quantity surveying until retirement, ending his career at Roger Kilby's in Wimbledon village and finally leaving the RICS in 2009. His passions in retirement were continuing with a life long interest in home improvements together with gardening and visits to the countryside.

He spent over 20 years with wife Brenda volunteering at Nymans Gardens for the National Trust and his ashes were taken there for interment.

We wish his family all the best at this difficult time.
